Reddit redesign

WHAT IS IT?

As I was first learning Figma, I wanted to reimagine one of my favorite websites to see how it would look with a different design style. Below is the result!

Tools I Used

To create this Figma mock up, I used Figma. At the time of this creation, Figma was completely new to me and I was using the project as way to learn the tool.

Objective

Learn how to design in Figma while imagining what Reddit might look like with a different design style.

Brand Match

I researched Reddit's brand guidelines to ensure my designs would resemble the brand, even if parts of the design were changing.

Once I had my wireframe designs ready to go and felt comfortable entering the workspace, I began to bring my design to life digitally.

Before starting in Figma, I sketched a few wireframe options in my notebook, trying to pinpoint what items I wanted to change.

I then played around with the prototyping functionality to create an interactive version of the new site design.

Before jumping into Figma, I did a bit of research and video watching on best practices and tips & tricks to keep in mind when using Figma.

I sent the prototype to my fellow designers for feedback on both my new design and how I set up my Figma file.

REFLECTION

Lessons Learned

Creating this mock up was a really fun challenge and a cool way to teach myself Figma. I found that Figma was incredibly similar to every other design tool I had used in the past and was excited to get to use some of the more advanced tools like auto-layout in the future.

Future Learning

I really enjoyed the challenge of creating something new within a new tool. It allowed me to be creative while also teaching myself a new tool. I definitely want to continue learning and trying new software or even learning new skills in Figma with projects like this.
